 KC Beatdown 86 - Going Retro - February 27th  nucrash [Wed 2-10-2010]

That's right.  Break out your CRTs, your Win98 disks. Bring on your stash of Floppy disks because we are going Retro.  If you have oldie and goody, bring it to the next KCBD because we want to play it for a change.

Many of us broke out Battlefield 1942 and enjoyed the fun of an old game with lots of strategy.  The new games are becoming more eye candy than enjoyment, so it's time we take it back a bit.

While this may be a blast, we realize that not everything is friendly with Windows 7 and while we have to admit, it's better than the last version that Microsoft spewed forth, we still want our legacy games.

So, bring forth your Quakes 1,2,& 3.  Show me your skills at Tribes.  Unleash that which is Battlefield 1942.  Bring in the old Command and Conquers.  Get charged about Re Volt.  Go head to head in Dog Fight.  It doesn't matter what you want to play, just bring it in and share in the fun.  Many of us want to kick back and play a great game without the concern of whether or not our graphics card is good enough.

So here's go playing some killer games and living it up like it's 1999.

 KCBD 84 - Wrap-up  nucrash [Mon 11-16-2009]

For those of you who missed it, we gave out 3 subscriptions to CPU Magazine including one to Special K for his Ammobox mod.  So for any of you modders out there, if you bring a new and unusual mod to the event, I will be sure to try and get you rewarded for all the hard work and effort.

We had a great time with Call of Duty 4 and not a single person played Modern Warfare 2.  I am not for sure why that was, but perhaps after some patching we will be able to see a game that is LAN worthy.  Some Flatout 2 made an appearance as well as Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and FarCry on a 30" LCD. Many of the participants share the feelings that many of the games are aging, but until more LAN friendly games come out, there simply isn't a need to replace what works.

The event lasted from 1pm all the way to 3am which is not bad for a 15 person event.  Although the end was very abrupt when a 2 hour game of Supreme Commander came to a halt when a gamer with the nickname of Eins7ien nuked himself.  Way to go genius.  Pick a better alias next time.  Be sure to put some thought into it.

All in all, we had a great event and can't wait to have another one.  The down side is that I don't see another one until 2010.  If you would like some input on when you would like the event to be, please feel free to join in the forums, or join the Facebook group which is getting a little be more fleshed out as we try and move into the 21st century only 9 years late.

For those of you who missed out, I hope to catch you next event as I would love to prove that we aren't dead. Although the PC gaming industry is doing a great job of trying to kill us.

The Word Is Out  nucrash [Sun 11-1-2009]

After talking with some friends, there might even be a small crowd coming all the way from Omaha.

Hopefully this is a good sign about the turnout.  I would be pretty amped if we could fill the Game Cafe.

KCBD 84 November 14th or ELSE!!!  nucrash [Sun 10-11-2009]

As the unofficial leadership of KCBD and also the most stubborn in the refusal to let the event just die. I have decided that

November 14th, 2009 will be KCBD 84 even if I have to host it from my own home.

This is from the following list if items:

1. I haven't fragged anyone in a very long time.
2. My main rig is off line, so I need time to rebuild.
3. If we don't host another event in the near future, I think some of us might go postal.
4. If we don't host an event soon, I think we might as well stick a fork in the event.
5. Modern Warfare 2 is a good enough reason as any to get together and start killing.

So go forth and buy your copies of the new game that week and I hope to see all of you at Game Cafe if I clear this by Tom.

Oh, and I plan to go as late as possible on this one, so hopefully all of you will too.
